A Historic Structure Report was completed in partnership with the National Park Service and a highly qualified team from Anderson Hallas Architects in 2021. The document outlines the history and evolving use of the building, and priorities for care and rehabilitation of the building. The findings of the Historic Structure Report accelerated the known need for roof replacement, other damages and threats to the property, and the recommended timeline:
- Consistent leaks into the sun porch space are caused by ponding in the flat roof above.
- Insufficient and improperly installed flashing at the alcove roof, both at the connection to the building and at peaks.
- Growth is a concern at the roof. Up-close investigation finds that significantly more growth is present than is visible from the ground.
- Existing gutters are non-compliant with the historic character of the structure and are not installed/sized correctly to catch water running off the shingles.
- Some wood rot is observed at exterior wood elements.
All of these issues are interconnected and need to be remedied as soon as possible.
